Construction sector

  • On 14 April 2016, the High Level Tripartite Strategic Forum on construction met in Brussels. The forum assessed the implementation of the Construction 2020 Action Plan and agreed on some comments to send to the Ministerial Conference on Construction organised by the Slovakian Presidency (Bratislava 15-16 September 2016).

Workshop on European Voluntary Certification Scheme

Under the Energy Performance of Building Directive (EPBD), the European Commission has to develop a European Voluntary Certification Scheme (VCS) for the energy performance of non-residential buildings, in addition to the already existing mandatory national energy performance certificates.

The second and final workshop with stakeholders took place on 21 April in Paris (first workshop took place in January in Brussels).

Live from the European Union 

  • The European Parliament’s committee on Industry, Research and Energy decided to prepare an own-initiative report in reaction to the earlier issues Communication on EU Heating and Cooling Strategy. The appointed Rapporter, Adam Gierek (S&D, Poland) is working together with sveral Shadow Rapporteurs from different political groups.

The Commission’s Communication sets out a Strategy on heating and cooling based on two main pillars:

1. Buildings and automation and 2. Industry.

URBAN Intergroup: How Europe’s town and cities can address current refugee crises

On 6th April the URBAN Intergroup of the European Parliament held a conference on How Europe’s town and cities can address current refugee crises. The conference took place at the European Investment Bank (EIB) who was the partner of the conference.

MEP Olbrycht, President of the URBAN Intergroup said in its welcome speech that the issue is very important and it is indispensable to integrate migrants in cities. The urban policy has a key role in this process since the structure, the composition and the function of cities has to change for example in order to avoid ghettos, to offer proper accommodation and living to migrants.
