LEVEL(s): a Common Language for Sustainable Buildings

At a glance

LEVEL(s) is a voluntary reporting framework to improve the sustainability of buildings. Using existing standards, it provides a common EU approach to the assessment of environmental performance in the built environment. It has been developed by the European Commission and cooperation with stakeholders.

It is a voluntary scheme and in particular as the framework provides the option of working with building assessment at three different levels, depending on the level of experience of the user and the objective of the assessment.

BIBM’s view

BIBM welcomes LEVEL(s) and congratulate the European Commission to develop a common framework that recognizes standards developed by CEN TC 350. It uses both Cycle Assessment (LCA) based on the standards developed by CEN/TC 350 “Sustainability of Construction Works” and Life Cycle Cost (LCC). BIBM also welcomes the fact that it recognizes the three pillars of sustainability (social, environmental and economic).
