National award winner projects

At the British Precast Award 2013, joint Project Award winners were Decomo UK for Emirates Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, and Thorp Precast for the new Cooperative Head Office in Manchester.

We presented the Emirates Arena in our November 2013 edition. In this edition, we present Thorp Precast’s winner. A new co-operative headquarters won the price, which is a 15 storey commercial office building. There are 3 structural cores formed with insitu concrete, these are then joined together with structural steel, the steel was supported for the first two floors by architectural white Portland mix precast columns approximately four metres tall. The steel was then fitted out with precast coffer units (Approx. 2000) typical weight about 4t, both steel and concrete were detailed in Tekla and collaboration was made between the structural steel and precast concrete sub-contractors.

If you would like to read more about the building, the whole article can be found here.
