European Parliament publishes own initiative report on Resource Efficiency
On 14 April, the European Parliament’s Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety published its own initiative report on Resource Efficiency: moving towards a circular economy. The report was presented to the Committee by the Rapporteur MEP PIETIKAINEN. After the Committee meeting, a Workshop was held on Resource Efficiency Indicators where a group of experts gave presentations.
BIBM prepared a position paper and amendments which has been sent to the Rapporteur and Shadow Rapporteurs.
The deadline for tabling amendments was 28 April 2015; the vote in the Committee is scheduled for 16 June, while the indicative plenary vote is foreseen for 7 September 2015.

Committee of Regions adopts its opinion on Resource efficiency opportunities in the building sector
On 29 April, in its reaction to the European Commission’s proposal, the Committee of the Regions (CoR) adopted its opinion titled Resource efficiency opportunities in the building sector. During the meeting, concerns were raised that “the role of local and regional authorities had been worryingly overlooked” despite their strategic importance and responsibilities.
